Quote Of The Day

'If you want one year of prosperity, grow seeds.

If you want ten years of prosperity, grow trees.

If you want hundred years of prosperity, grow people.'

 -  Proverb

This is a brilliant quote that teaches us a lesson of having humanity. It tells us that, if we want a short span of prosperity, we must grow seeds. If we want long span of prosperity, we should grow trees. But if want forever prosperity, we must grow people. That is, always having good relations with people around you will help prosper in life forever.

Explanation

A cat only sees the milk but not the stick it might be hit with for stealing the milk. In the same manner a (greedy) person may take huge risks for wealth without considering the consequences. A wise man should always anticipate the consequences of the risk being taken for an expected result.

ACTORS- DO THEY DESERVE THE SALARY THEY GET?

One thing which we audience can surely agree to, is that real life warriors for example: - a farmer, a soldier or a doctor are more important for our country than entertainment we receive because of the actors, then why is there such a huge difference in their pay checks and is it correct or not?

I have always loved movies, but in this pandemic, we really understood the value and importance of real-life heroes rather than reel life heroes (actors). Just to give you an idea about how much the difference is that the highest post of a doctor maybe a neurosurgeon or a MD are offered an average salary of 1/1.5 crore rupees a year, and on the other hand well known established actors can earn as much as 40 to 50 crores a year. So why this discrimination or why such an attitude?

Of course, entertainment cannot be prioritized before the health and safety of the people, so why do soldiers don’t get enough credit or why do farmers receive a low amount of money in spite of the hard work they do? Well, we don’t actually have an answer for this but it is quite an issue and must be brought in front of the common media.

NAVAL LEGEND OF WW2: YAMATO

Yamato, literally ‘great harmony’ was the lead ship of the Japanese imperial navy shortly commissioned {16 December 1941} before ww2.

This warship was the world's biggest warship built by the Japanese to counter the U.S. pacific fleet.

Some features of the warship:

  • Length: 236m
  • Weight: 65,030 tons
  • Speed: 50 km/h
  • Range: 13,300 km

Yamato was installed with 12 kampon boilers which gave a total power of 110,000 kw.

Armament:

Yamato’s main battery consisted of 46cm 45caliber type94 naval guns, which was the largest artillery ever fitted on a warship.

The secondary battery comprised 12 155mm guns mounted in four triple turrets.

Yamato was equipped with 25mm anti-aircraft guns mounted in the middle of the ship.

During the naval encounters in the south pacific the secondary battery configuration was changed to 6 155mm guns and the number of anti-aircraft guns was increased to 162.

Battles fought during ww2:

1.     battle of midway

2.   Battle of philippine sea

3.   Battle of leyte gulf

4.   Battle of sibuyan sea

5.   Battle of samar

The suicide mission:

 Operation ten-go (1945):

The final engagement of the yamato was connected to the allied invasion of Okinawa. This prompted the Japanese navy to commence operation ten-go sending the entire fleet to confront the U.S. navy that was supporting the invasion.

On April 6th, 1945 yamato with one light cruiser and eight destroyers went on a suicide mission. American code breakers found about the Japanese plan and the U.S. navy was prepared for the action.

On April 7th 10 ships led by yamato was attacked by 400 American fighters.

Yamato withstood the bombs hitting its deck, but 11 torpedoes hit the portside were more than it could take. After it rolled over to port, its aft magazines exploded taking yamato to the bottom of the sea. 3,063 sailors were killed and only 269 survived.

The sinking of battleship yamato marked the end of the Japanese imperial navy.

ART- AN UNIQUE WAY OF COMMUNICATION

What do you mean by ‘Art’? Well, it’s not only about a palette, a couple of brushes, splash of paints and a white canvas. Art is also a very beautiful and elegant way of communication. Different, isn’t it? Art can be objectified as a medium, using which people can use their vivid imaginations to express emotional, conceptual ideas and also can be used to express technical proficiency and different perspectives of the beauty of things around. Art is a massive world of creativity.

Art does not really have a definition. The form of Art has been changed with changing times. There are varieties of visual art like dance, theatre, painting, sculpture, architecture as well as literature, music, film and other media constituting the definition of art. Art was described as ‘mastery’ or ‘skill’ until the very beginning of the 17th century. Many theorists have worked on the meaning of art since olden times and they have come to the conclusion that art relates to the old Latin word, which roughly translates to ‘craft’ or ‘skill’. Art is mainly categorised into forms, media, genre and styles. Art never qualifies to a single concept as such as it completely depends on the individual on the basis of his own creative imagination. In a cultural aspect, art is used in performances, dances as a form to symbolise the importance of the respective culture or their traditions. It can also say a lot about a person’s psychology, emotions, mood and his desires. Art is the easiest way of communication.

Art can also be defined as ‘freedom’. Well, art is something which will help you in your hardest times and can help you express many things which the world doesn’t understand by word of mouth. ‘Art therapy’ is something which has been proved and used by many psychologists, therapists and psychotherapists as a healer to human health. Art is also used for social causes and for raising awareness about various issues.

Let’s conclude this topic with a meaningful quote - Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in. – Amy Lowell.

PROBABLE SELECTION ISSUES FOR INDIA AHEAD OF THE WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

While the World Test Championship Final is still almost a month away, there are some selection head-aches that India might face while entering the final at Southampton. Let’s look at some of the challenges that India may face while selecting the best possible XI for the WTC final.

THE SECOND OPENER’S SLOT

For the opener’s slot, Rohit Sharma is an automatic choice as the first opener, but there is a doubt on who will open for India along with him. After his fine innings on the final day of the decider test, at the Gabba, against a strong Australian pace attack, young Shubman Gill would have directly selected himself for that spot, but a poor series at home against England has a bit lessened his chances for selection. Mayank Agarwal who already has 2 double hundreds to his name, could pose a challenge to Shubman Gill for the second opener’s spot. KL Rahul who is the part of squad, provided he is fit, can also be a fine competitor for that opener’s slot. India’s number 3, 4, 5 and 6 are sorted in Cheteshwar Pujara, Skipper Virat Kohli, deputy Ajinkya Rahane, and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

THE NUMBER 7 AND 8 CONUNDRUMS

The number 7 and 8 conundrums are to be solved by individual perspective. If India decides to play 2 spinners, they would play Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, which is highly unlikely given that the match is in England and the ball starts spinning only by Day 3 or 4. If India feels that their batting is looking a bit weak, they can strengthen it by playing an extra batsman in Hanuma Vihari at number 7, who can also give some overs of spin. If they do so, then they would have to play any one of Ashwin and Jadeja at number 8. Another option is playing Shardul Thakur as India’s number 8 with Jadeja or Ashwin at number 7. Given the impact Shardul has been able to provide with the bat be it in white-ball cricket or red-ball cricket he can make a decent case for selection. In the final ODI against England, Shardul struck a beautiful 30 off just 21 balls, consisting of 3 maximums and a boundary, and no one has yet forgotten his graceful innings in the decider test at Gabba, against Australia. With no prominent seam bowling all-rounder in team, due to concerns over Hardik Pandya’s bowling (following a back surgery), Shardul can always be considered as ‘the bowling all-rounder’. The fact that he can swing the ball quite well, suiting the England conditions, makes his case tempting. If not in the WTC final, Shardul may get the nod from the selectors in any test against England. In such a case India’s lower order may feature like Pant at 6, Ashwin/Jadeja at 7, Shardul at 8 followed by the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami.

FOOTBALL

MANCHESTER CITY ARE CROWNED PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS AFTER

MAN UNITED LOSE TO LEICESTER CITY

Manchester City have won the Premier League title for the third time under Pep Guardiola following second-placed Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at home. United were the only club with a chance to overhaul City mathematically. However, 10 changes from last week’s 3-1 victory to Aston Villa shows as a matter of fact how pragmatic Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was. United will face Liverpool in their fourth match in eight days. The result will prove to be of little significance to Manchester United who have secured UCL qualification and are aiming to lift the Europa League trophy by defeating Villarreal on the showdown on 27th May. However, Leicester’s victory against Man United means that Klopp’s side are seven points adrift of a top four finish with four games to go. Solskjaer’s decision to bench many of their influential players proved costly for the Reds from Merseyside. Liverpool boss Klopp admitted that he too would have made changes of similar magnitude if he would have faced a similar fixture congestion United is facing and did not condemn Ole’s changes in any way which has dented their Champions League hopes.

Despite failing to seal the deal last week against Chelsea, City have pulled off a spectacular turnaround after their worst start to the season since 2008-09, picking up just 12 points from first eight matches. The Cityzens have got three more games to spare after which all eyes will be on their maiden Champions League Final against Chelsea on the night of 29th May. The two sides from Manchester have both got a chance to bring European glory. The first time the Super League was contested by two sides from the same city was in 2018 when Real Madrid faced Atletico.  If, both the sides from Manchester succeed to trump their opponents in the Champions and Europa League finals, we can possibly experience a local derby in UEFA Super League just for the second time till date.
