Quote Of The Day

On account of Gandhi jayanti and Shastriji's birth anniversary, we as the future generation of this world should learn this important thing that the above quote tells us. If we want a change that needs to brought in the world, we ourselves should volunteer it. We should be the first ones to change our mindset and take steps accordingly to bring that change. And in order to change the world, we must look into ourselves and infact be that change.

Aditya and Ved are playing a game where they remove stones from a pile of 20 stones while following these rule:

Rules:
Players take turn removing 1, 2, 3 or 4 stones from the pile (they cannot 'pass' their turn).

Whoever takes the last stones wins.

Aditya goes first. Assuming ideal play from both players, how many stones should Aditya remove from the pile in the first turn to assure victory.

This is an example of a very interesting type of games called 'Nim'.

a) 1     b) 2    c) 3    d) 4    e) Aditya cannot win.

The grass isn't always green on the other side. It's greener where you water it.

Puzzler: X
Answer: e) Aditya cannot win.
Explanation.
Consider the end of the game. When a player is faced with 5 stones remaining on their turn, they will lose - they can at most pick up 4 and they have to pick up at least 1, which will leave the opponent with at least 1 or at most 4 stones which assures victory. 20 stones is basically 5 stones piled on top of each other 4 times. So the person who plays second (Ved) will always win.
In short during Ved's turn if he picks (5 - number of stones Aditya picked) it will assure him the win.

Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi, byname of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Indian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the nationalist movement against the British rule of India. As such, he came to be considered the father of his country. Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest (satyagraha) to achieve political and social progress.

Be his decision making, leadership or patriotic movements against the British he has always been the symbol of principles and honesty.

Early Age

Born on 2nd October 1869, Gandhi was raised in Porbandar. He was the youngest child of his father’s fourth wife. His father—Karamchand Gandhi, was the dewan (chief minister) of Porbandar. His mother, Putlibai, who was completely absorbed in religion, did not care much for finery or jewelry, divided her time between her home and the temple.

At the age of 19, Mohandas left home to study law in London at the Inner Temple, one of the city’s four law colleges. Upon returning to India in mid-1891, he set up a law practice in Bombay, but met with little success. He soon accepted a position with an Indian firm that sent him to its office in South Africa. Along with his wife, Kasturba, and their children, Gandhi remained in South Africa for nearly 20 years. He was deeply moved by the racism and discrimination he saw in South Africa. In July 1914, Gandhi left South Africa to return to India. He supported the British war effort in World War I, but remained critical of colonial authorities for measures he felt were unjust. In 1919, Gandhi launched an organized campaign of passive resistance in response to Parliament’s passage of the Rowlatt Acts, which gave colonial authorities emergency powers to suppress subversive activities.

A Young Gun

After sporadic violence broke out, Gandhi announced the end of the resistance movement, to the dismay of his followers. British authorities arrested Gandhi in March 1922 and tried him for sedition; he was sentenced to six years in prison but was released in 1924 after undergoing an operation for appendicitis. He refrained from active participation in politics for the next several years, but in 1930 launched a new civil disobedience campaign against the colonial government’s tax on salt, which greatly affected India’s poorest citizens.

A MOVEMENT (DIVIDED)

In 1931, after British authorities made some concessions, Gandhi again called off the resistance movement and agreed to represent the Congress Party at the Round Table Conference in London. Gandhi began a series of hunger strikes in protest of the treatment of India’s so-called “untouchables” (the poorer classes), whom he renamed Harijans, or “children of God.” The fasting caused an uproar among his followers and resulted in swift reforms by the Hindu community and the government.

When he died, roughly 1 million people followed the procession as Gandhi’s body was carried in state through the streets of the city and cremated on the banks of the holy Jumna River.

A Beautiful end to an amazing chapter of our lives

In August of 2021, we, the students of the batch of 2020-21 aka the Covid batch received our 10th std results. We would probably be the first historical batch to pass our 10th std without actually giving physical exams. But honestly this was a bittersweet moment for us, as even though we were happy as we were safe and relieved from the exam stress, we were parallely disappointed as we had missed out on the most fun and thrilling year of our schooling lives.

The story of our online education starts in the March of 2021 when the COVID pandemic hit and the lockdown was imposed. For about a year after that the schools were strictly shut and we had to complete our entire course for the 10th std in the online mode. Throughout our 10th std we did not experience the feeling of being a class and uniting on various occasions, we missed the countless school pranks, free periods, the various interclass competitions, the Annual Gathering, the ever- awaited sports week and even the traditional school farewell. This really hit hard.

Now in the August of 2021, with us getting our results, receiving our leaving certificates and officially being ex students of our school we could not possibly do anything about the other things (like the sports week, etc.) we had missed. But the one thing which could be done by us, 16 year olds single- handedly was to organise a School Farewell. And so began the process of arranging a Farewell party for our classmates.

The 10th std school farewell is a program traditionally organised by the school to bid adieu to the students of 10th std and wish them luck for their future. It is a great occasion for all the students of the 10th std to meet together for one last time to chat, to share and to create a last set of memories before parting ways and entering different colleges.

Recently I was on a video call with some of my school friends. While we were chatting, randomly the topic of arranging a school farewell came up and within seconds all of us agreed that we needed to organise a farewell to gather our class together for one last time.

In the next two days, we were ready with the day, date and the venue of the farewell party. As we were extremely short of time, we divided the work of organising amongst ourselves and we were off. Soon the venue, menu, decorations and all the other stuff was finalised. All the members of the organising committee were working extremely hard to put together this farewell. In the next few days we sent out the invites to all of our classmates and everyone seemed excited and eager for the program. We even asked some of our classmates to contribute to the arrangement and everyone cooperated really well.

Nearly after 10 days of that random video call we were ready for the farewell party. We made sure that we follow all the rules and restrictions for the safety of all the students.

And it was finally the day of the farewell. The excitement and hype had reached a sky high. In the morning we sent out the formal invites as well as the rules that needed to be followed during the party and we were all set.

At about 4:30 pm we reached the venue and started with the decorations and setting up all the other things. At about 5, the students started showing up at the venue. The girls were in graceful Sarees and the boys in fitted Blazers . And I must say most of them were right on time. Now after almost a year and a half of no contact, I was seeing all these faces in one room.  And without any further ado we requested everyone to get seated, and started the program. Initially there were some speeches. Then there was a game of Fish Pond which received a great response and there had to be a second round. Lots of secrets were uncovered and there were some serious additions to our knowledge. Next, some of the boys took to the stage to sing some of our favourite songs and by the end, literally everyone was on their feet. After the songs, the disco lights were on and the DJ took over and kept the vibe going. For about the next hour, all of us literally danced like we had never before. We were not ready to stop. At the end, to all of our dismay, we stopped the disco and posed for a grand group photo. At the end all of us enjoyed the delicious dinner.

By the end of the evening, the sun had set but our spirits were still high. The atmosphere was filled with nostalgia and sentiments, everyone was clicking photos with their classmates, sharing memories and  feelings with each other. It was just a surreal feeling to be with the people whom I had shared a class with for the majority of my lifetime. I wished that time would freeze in that moment and I would store all of this craziness in my mind. But as they say, ‘ All good things come to an end’ even this beautiful evening was coming to an end. The goodbyes started pouring in. I felt emotional yet satisfied at the same time.

The next day, everyone was updating their insta stories and the spam of photos continued. I am utterly grateful that this happened and I will be treasuring these memories for the rest of my life.It is always said that a school gives you much more than just knowledge and today I realise the meaning of this quote as I am leaving school with probably the best set of friends and classmates that I will ever have.

I think this Farewell was a perfect ending to the best chapter of our lives that is our school and I cannot wait to have a class reunion in the near future to experience this craziness again.

Lastly, lots of love to all of my classmates and schoolmates. I am gonna miss you guys.

Little Reminders

Welcome to series of tips and advice for day-to-day problems and lifestyle enhancement. Short and crisp tips go a long way!

“Motivation is a myth; you just need to start”

Applies to study and work:

  • 5 MINUTE RULE: Don’t have motivation? Bored and yet tons of work to do? Just get up and force yourself to work for 5 minutes. NO distractions. Focus. Understand your material and go all in. Most likely, your brain would get its system working and you’ll end up completing at least half your task at one go. If not so, let go, don’t force yourself. Take a nurturing break and try again after sometime.

  • 9-5 WORKING: Try different methods and find out the time period of the day when you are the most productive. Or else choose 9-5. In your chosen period, work with full concentration and no distractions. It will train your brain to get in the zone, actually complete your tasks, and prepare you for the real world.

  • CREATE YOUR WORKSPACE; If you are working from home, or even when you study at home after your school/college, decide a particular place where you’ll sit to study every time. Mostly avoid studying on your bed or the places where you go relax. Choose a place where you’ll maintain a correct posture and have a source of wind and natural lighting. If it helps, play some soft instrumental music, light some scented candles and switch off your devices

  • TO DO LISTS: Create to do lists. Relentlessly. Create them for your daily tasks, long term tasks, self care activities, errands, goals, deadlines, assignments, projects and anything else that is taking up your headspace. Doing this will definitely help you clear your mind, track your progress, and help you know what to do next. Especially it would help save time and give you a clear idea of what to achieve in a day thus motivating you, by eliminating the time you waste to think of what you have to do.

  • NO ZERO DAY: Zero day is a day when you don’t do a single thing that leads you to your goals and ambitions. As soon as you get any assignments, projects to submit, note it down on your calendar. Start doing it today. Even writing 5 lines is a start. Everyday you do one small thing towards your goals. One line. One chapter. One pushup. NO zero days. Starting small but consistent will guarantee your success. This guarantees that you don’t have an overwhelming, tumbling pile of tasks to do just before your submissions or your exams, and will help you to create progress. Everyday.

(These are some simple tips I read, experienced and created for easy but efficient work, this is no rule book, just something to guide you. See ya next week for more. – INSPIRATION: Pinterest)

KL RAHUL, SHAHRUKH KHAN TAKE PUNJAB OVER THE LINE AS INJURIES HAUNT KOLKATA

At Dubai yesterday, Kolkata faced Punjab in a game where they should have won. Punjab winning the toss decided to field first. Kolkata didn’t have the services of Lockie Fergusson and Andre Russel who were both out due to injuries. While Punjab brought in Fabian Allen for Chris Gayle, who left the bio bubble due to fatigue. Shahrukh Khan was also brought into the team after a considerable gap from the India leg of the tournament. Batting first KKR lost Shubman Gill cheaply but then Venkatesh Iyer, the new hero of Kolkata took over along with Rahul Tripathi. They both stitched a beautiful partnership until Rahul departed for 34 off 26 balls. V. Iyer continued his hitting but then departed for 67 off 49 balls. A brilliant cameo by Nitish Rana making 31 runs off just 18 balls consisting of 2 fours and 2 maximums took KKR’s total to a 165. When Punjab came out to bat, it was Mayank Agarwal who played the accelerator while KL Rahul was going at a run-a-ball. They gave a solid start to the PBKS. Mayank departed for a score of 40 and wickets continue to fall in regular intervals. Pooran, Markram, and Hooda each were dismissed for 12, 18 and 3 respectively while Rahul was standing strong on the other end. It was Shahrukh khan who took over the responsibility and finished the game for PBKS along with Rahul. He made 22 off just 9 balls. Rahul was awarded the Player of the match for his innings of 67 off 55 which helped Punjab seal the game.
