Quote Of The Day

Mighty, hard rocks shape themselves through course of time due to flowing river water. This is not because of the powerful speed of water, but instead it is because of the continuity of the flow of water. Therefore, in life as well, power is not important, whereas persistence is effective.

ORDER IN CHAOS

Why keeping items in a particular order is no longer the trend in warehouses.

One might expect that in huge warehouses, where innumerable different items are stored, the items must be categorized, ordered in some way, so that similar items are together in a particular area and easy to retrieve. However, that may not be the case as computers take over the system to search and retrieve required items. Items can be stored in a completely random manner and yet be easily retrieved using robots and computerized systems.

In a traditional organized warehouse, when a shipment of, say Harry Potter Books arrives, an employee looks up the “Harry Potter Books” shelf and moves the shipment to that shelf. On the other hand, if the same shipment arrives in a computerized warehouse, each of the books from the shipment are taken out and stored individually, wherever there is place and preferably away from each other. The unique ID of the product and where it is placed is recorded. For retrieving the product all one must do is enter the product ID and the computer will give its position in the warehouse or may even order the robots to fetch it for you! Such a system is considered much more space efficient than the traditional method. A similar system is implemented in Amazon warehouses  as well as a library in North Carolina State University. However, this system is not without its disadvantages. One of the main potential drawbacks of this system is if the computer system fails, finding books or items becomes exceedingly difficult.

Even with its few drawbacks, this system is the future of organizing and retrieving items. Instead of sorting the products themselves, they are indexed and then sorted in the computer. Anything can be retrieved from the complete chaos of randomly arranged products, because the algorithm knows its exact position.

FUN WAYS TO KICK DOWN A MENTAL BLOCK

Life’s getting tougher, confusing and overwhelming, during this pandemic when ironically, we are just sitting in our homes. Its impact on our mental health is just plain simple obvious. Personally, this experience for me was really tiring and depressing in the beginning, but looking at it in a different way, it’s really an opportunity, we can grab with both hands… But only when our brain is ready to work. And a mental block is no way to do that. So here are some ways to get out of your pandemic inspired mental blocks and get your creative juices flowing!

~ Start doing yoga or workout (at your homes please)

~ Write down your goals for when the world is in a better place

~ Make a bucket list for the activities you want to do

~ Make a list of all the places you want to travel to

~ Learn a skill online

~ Bake something with your family

~ Learn how to create a portfolio and/or a resume

~ Cook a full feast with your family members (I tried this! It’s genuinely fun!!)

~ Paint on mini canvases

~ Make birthday greeting cards for your loved ones in advance so you don’t rush it later

~ Solve puzzles, quizzes and mysteries with your friends (online)

~ Take up a household chore, and do it everyday without fail (for a more fun experience, blast up those headphones!)

These and many such ways could make your pandemic a bit more fun and a tad bit happier. I’ll be coming up with part 2 soon!

Because as you know, a fun and positive attitude is the only way we are going to beat this, sitting at our homes!

(Also here’s a picture of one way I implemented ;))

Au revoir! :))

VILLARREAL DEFEAT MANCHESTER UNITED IN PENALTY SHOOTOUT TO CLINCH MAIDEN EUROPA LEAGUE TITLE

Villarreal have defeated Manchester United 11-10 on penalties to win their first European title after a 1-1 draw in the final showdown. Villarreal were in the lead going 30 minutes into the game thanks to a goal converted on a Parejo freekick by Gerard Moreno. Villarreal were in the front going into the break but Edinson Cavani restored parity early into the second half. The game went down to the wire in what was a thrilling and nerve-racking marathon penalty shootout. The scores were level 10-10 when Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli scored from the spot and then decisively saved a penalty from his counterpart, Da Gea to seal the deal for Unai Emery’s side. The victory means that Unai Emery has won his fourth Europa league title, the most by any manager. The Spanish side will go on to face either Chelsea or Manchester City in the UEFA Super Cup depending on the result from Porto on Sunday.
