Quote Of The Day

'One cannot think well, sleep well, love well if one has not dined well.

~ Virginia Woolf

We very well know that food and water are the basic needs of humans. Hence, through this quote, the writer is trying to convey a very easily understanding message, that if we have not dined well, we cannot concentrate on anything else. We need to be properly dined, only then can we pay attention to other things of our life.

Explanation

A flower is cherished not only because of its color and beauty but also because of its sweet smell which suits its appearance. Similarly, a person who converts his promising words into actions is liked by all.

  • 1999, Despite relative calm between India and Pakistan since the 1971 Indo-Pak war, tensions were rising between the two countries due to separatist activities in Kashmir. SHARE MARKETS

What is a share market?

In the 1600s, the Dutch East India Company employed hundreds of ships to trade gold, porcelain, silks and spices around the globe. But running the operations wasn’t cheap.  In order to fund their expensive voyages, the company turned to private citizens- individuals who could invest money to support the trip, in exchange for a share of the company’s profits. This allowed the company to afford even grander voyages, increasing profits for them and their savvy investors. The Dutch East India Company unknowingly started the first stock market. Since then, companies have been collecting funds from willing investors to support all kinds of businesses. Such shares of companies which are publicly available for investing, can be bought and sold on stock exchanges. Stocks on these exchanges are tracked by indices, called averages/composites. These indices track companies’ stocks from specific countries, industries/sectors and companies having varied market caps. Nifty 50 is India’s widely tracked index from National Stock Exchange which covers 50 top performing companies from different industries. Sensex is Nifty’s counterpart from the Bombay Stock Exchange comprising 30 stocks. There are indices which track sectors like Bank Nifty, Nifty Pharma, BSE Capital Goods, Nifty metal, Nifty Auto, etc.

How to perform well in stocks?

Investors can profit in stocks by buying lower and selling higher. The basic story remains simple and never-ending. Stocks aren’t lottery tickets. There’s a company attached to every share. Companies do better or they do worse. If a company does worse than before, its stock will fall. If a company does better, its stock will rise. If you own good companies that continue to increase their earnings, you’ll do well. Corporate profits are up fifty-five-fold since World War II, and the stock market is up sixtyfold. Four wars, nine recessions, fourteen prime-ministers, and three impeachments didn’t change that.

Is stocks gambling?

There is a false notion that stock markets bring volatility which some people often relate to gambling. When you buy a share of stock, even a very risky stock, you are contributing something to the growth of the country. That’s what stocks are for. As it is considered dangerous to speculate in stocks of small companies, at least the “speculators” are providing the capital to enable the IBMs and the McDonald’ses and the Wal-Marts to get started. Most middle class households have their retirement incomes dependent on stocks through various schemes like mutual funds, convertible debentures, index funds, bonds, etc. Do you think crores of middle class households will gamble on their retirement?

ANGARAJ: THE UNRECOGNIZED SON OF THE SUN GOD

Many know him as Angaraj, many as Daanveer, but most popular as Sutaputra (the charioteer’s son) or Suryaputra, Karna, was the first son of Queen Kunti, the Mother of the Pandavas. Destined to be the most ill-fated, forgotten prince, he was the most brilliant and the most rightful heir of the Pandava legacy.

Here are some unknown facts, about the Great King:-

Karna was greater than Yudhishthira:

One day, to test the greatness of the two kings, Krishna went to them, disguised as a Brahmin, asking for sandalwood as fuel. Yudhishtira, unable to give the required wood, apologised and asked the Brahmin, to ask for something else. When Lord Krishna went to Karna, without even thinking for the second time, the great Daanveer destroyed all the doors
of his palace, which were made of the same wood. This proved that Karna was the more virtuous one.

Who was more powerful?

Everyone is aware of the bitter rivalry between Arjuna, and Karna, due to their animosity over the ancient art of warfare. According to a legend, it is said that, with every arrow, with which Arjuna hit Karna, Karna’s chariot moved only two feet behind. But when Karna’s arrows hit Arjuna’s chariot, it moved much farther behind. Owing to the fact that Arjuna’s charioteer was none other than Lord Krishna himself, and the flag was where Lord Hanuman was seated, the chariot was controlled by the greatest possible skill. This proved that in terms of knowledge, skill, and power, the ‘eldest Pandava’ was more powerful than Dhananjay Arjuna.

Karna’s Lineage:

According to The Mahabharata, Karna was married to Vrushali, the Pukhiya princess, and had ten sons, namely, Vrishasena, Sudama, Vrishaketu, Chitrasena, Satyasena, Sushena, Shatrunjaya, Dvipata, Banasena, and Prasena. After Karna, Vishaketu, the only surviving son
of Karna, became the next king of the Anga province, under the patronage of his uncle, Arjuna.

Karna is always remembered as “Radheya”, and never “Kaunteya”:

When Karna got to know the truth about his birth, he contempt the fact that he was Kunti’s first born and denied all the rights of being the eldest Pandava, due to his hatred for his biological mother. One of his last wishes was to be remembered as Radheya; the son of his foster mother Radha, and never as Kaunteya; the son of Kunti.

PANDEMIC ; A BOON OR BANE – FOR TEENAGERS

From the year 2020, we all have certainly been facing extremely awful and absolutely unexpected circumstances. You know, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This pandemic definitely happened to be a turning point in all our lives. We never had, even in our wildest dreams thought, we would have to experience something like this in our lives. And more so ever, for the teenagers. We, the teenagers, had never expected anything like this pandemic, coming our way so early in our lives. We all had to go through some really weird situations due to this pandemic.

The school-going teens had to start off with the year by bidding good-bye to the school very unexpectedly and were directly promoted to the next standard. That was certainly a good time in most of the teen lives. Slowly and steadily, we somehow got through the last year and we all were hoping that things would fall in the right places. But until then, right from the beginning of 2021, things started becoming even worse. The number of positive cases went on increasing. Ultimately, we teenagers ourselves started getting prone towards getting positive, which was scary. Many teens had to go through self-quarantine and isolation due to testing positive. And of course, how can we forget the latest of all milestones…The std. 10 board exams got cancelled! Nothing more happening in a teen’s life.

But with all this said and done, do we really understand how our lives as teens changed due to this pandemic? This was surely a rollercoaster of a ride to all of us, but we also got to learn and got the exposure of so many things. Most importantly, we all got time for self-introspection and getting to know things about ourselves. We got the opportunity to think, what our life and actual this pandemic means to us. And this definitely brought a drastic change in all of our lives. Many of us imbibed varied hobbies in ourselves, and engaged ourselves in different interesting things. We all definitely got a wide outlook of our lives. Even though these times have been traumatizing to all of us, I would definitely like to agree and believe that this pandemic taught us teens some really life-learning lessons.

MANCHESTER CITY VS PSG: PREVIEW

Manchester City hold a slender advantage as they welcome Paris St. Germain to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday in the second leg of a mouth-watering semi-final clash. PSG were on top in the first half last week however the Cityzens staged a comeback with goals from Riyad Mahrez and Kevin de Bruyne. The premier league leaders are in touching distance, the closest they have been ever to their maiden Champions League final. PSG are looking to go one better after just falling short in last year’s final against Bayern Munich. Paris St. Germain face an anxious wait to see if Kylian Mbappe will be fit to face City after the France world cup winning star faced a calf injury. Uncertainty over his presence throws the spotlight on Neymar and other senior figures like Angel di Maria, Marco Verratti and Marquinhos. “I will do anything to beat Man City, even if I have to die on the pitch”, says Neymar. Guardiola is still wary about the threat PSG pose despite a lead and potential absence Mbappe and insists that the tie is far from over. Pep Guardiola says his side must not miss the opportunity to make history. Pep Guardiola makes routinely changes and some surprising changes in the past have seen him being accused by sceptics of overthinking knockout games. However, City will treat the second leg “like another game”, says the City boss. “We arrive in a good moment and I said to the guys, ‘Don’t think too much to win the game’”, said Guardiola. The stage is set for the two clubs to potentially make history in what could be a nail-biting semi-final game.
