Quote Of The Day

This quote throws light on the fact that contradiction is a situation where a statement may not be agreed by one and maybe by another. But that doesn’t mean that contradiction suggests that the statement is false. And nor does it suggest that lack of contradiction means the statement is true. It is nothing but a debate caused by difference in point of views.

Explanation

(What will happen if people stop with the hard task of obtaining oil from sesame thinking that obtaining sesame oil is not in their fortune? Similarly,) What will happen if everyone stops working assuming that good result is not in their fortune? This dynamic world will come to a complete stand still. Hence everyone should continue their work with complete ingenuity and considering that they will get the result they deserve for their share of work and its quality.

Puzzler

Tinu and Minu are each wearing a hat of either blue color or red color. They can both see each other's hats but cannot see their own. Both Tinu and Minu guess their own hat color at the same time. They get a bowl full of chocolate if either Tinu or Minu correctly guesses their hat color. With a perfect strategy, what is the probability they get the chocolate bowl?

NOTE: There is no mirror or any other means to know one’s own hat color. Tinu and Minu cannot talk with each other once the hats are assigned, however they can plan their strategy before the game starts.

STORY OF THE GREAT GAUTAMA BUDHDHA

There was once a time when Gautama Buddha influenced many souls and was an idol of many. Many theists and atheists lived in the same village as him. Both went around the village either preaching or changing people’s beliefs. Whilst doing so, a thread of thought entered their minds. The theists thought that, what if god did not exist? What if they just spent all their lives on something unreal? The atheists on the other hand started to feel worried. What if god in fact did exist? What if such was the case and they could not rectify their mistake later?

They both decided to consult Buddha and paid him a visit. After hearing them out, Buddha smiled and told them that they were all sailing in the same boat. He compared this situation with an examination, if we are unsure whether there is an exam or not and decide to study… there is no loss even if the exam is not conducted, but if we don’t study and the exam is conducted then we are at loss. As a result, all returned rethinking their actions.

CLASS X BATCH - 2020

Standard 10, the most tensed year in our lives. So I still remember in 2020 we were all studying for the coming 9th standard final exams when suddenly there was the coronavirus outbreak. Lockdown started to happen in all the nations worldwide. But we thought that in a matter of four to five months this all would be just a story to tell our future generations. But destiny had other plans for us students. Then after all the waiting, 9 standard exams were cancelled which was kind of a relief.  Now we all started getting ready to give the matriculate exam which will eventually decide our future. Our academic year started in the middle of July month when our school was going to conduct online classes. Panic was a lot among people at that time but the corona cases were only a handful.

We were actually studying very hard for our board exams right from the start of the year. Our school was conducting online tests for us. Then gradually came the midterms where everyone passed with flying colors. Even though we all were connected through the social media we were missing our school and all the talks we used to have back then especially, we were missing our teachers and the live teaching which was very interesting compared to online teaching.

As we progressed, New Year arrived and everyone thought that this would be the end
of Corona. We were gearing up for our prelims which were going to happen in our school premises. The results of our prelims were not up to the mark and now we were all very tensed to give our board exams. We all were focused to score good marks in our board exams but we were actually mentally harassed every once in a week as some of the other news sprang up. The education ministry was postponing our exams and we were all getting restless. We had no choice but to study each and every day. Studying was not that boring compared to opening the same book every day. We had no idea about how our exams were going to be conducted but we still had hope that we, the students, will all meet at least once before we give our exams at our farewell. but unfortunately the corona outbreak was at a very large scale then we expected it to have. Not only us students, but also our parents were extremely worried about us. Then finally the CBSE board canceled their board exams but the SSC board had just postponed them.

Now, we had no choice, but to go with the flow. On one fine evening when I was working out, when my friend texted me that the SSC exams have been cancelled now I was both ecstatic and sad at the same time because I had studied so hard for this one exam which was cancelled.

Even today we still have the fear that how are we going to get our 10 standard Marks and what is going to be the strategy of the ministry to allocate us the rightful share of our hard work.

BOOK REVIEW: THE BOOK THIEF by MARKUS ZUSAK

‘The Book Thief’ is a beautiful piece of work by Markus Zusak. The story is based upon the life of a young girl (Liesel Meminger) living in Nazi Germany who was forced to live with her foster parents (Hans and Rosa Hubermann) during the 1940s. The story is narrated by DEATH who has been personified by the author. Death was fascinated by the way the lives of Liesel and that of Death itself seem to coincide at certain points of time. This piece of work depicts annoyance for Hitler’s reign and his fanatical supporters but, simultaneously gives an insight of the life of people who were not subjected to tyranny.

Writing Style

The author has not used any kind of superficial ideas; instead he has provided a perfect imagery of a human society of German people by concentrating on the details like emotions, collective psychology and human behavior during various conditions. This story is narrated by DEATH (as a character). The written work is to the point with occasional swirls of emotions. His writing shows anger not only for Hitler’s tyranny but also for the concept of war which was upheld by nearly all countries of the world.

Story

At the beginning of the story, Death (Narrator) stated a fact, “You are going to die.” The mentioning of this fact might leave you perplexed at first, but eventually you will understand what the Narrator had to say. Then Death describes three incidents where it had to linger around Liesel, but not for Liesel until she met her natural end. At the beginning of the narration, Liesel’s mother had set out on a train journey to Munich, to leave Liesel and her brother to live with foster parents, as Liesel’s mother was no longer able to take care of her children because Liesel’s father was a communist which in Nazi Germany was being more than a criminal. During that journey, her brother died, this was the point when Death first acknowledged her. While burying her brother in a graveyard, a gravedigger dropped a book, ‘The Gravediggers’ Handbook’. Leisel took the book for herself and at that point the thievery started. The Book Thief who didn’t know how to read, eventually learnt and excelled in reading and stealing books. This is just the beginning, the war is yet to enter the frame. But, when it does you even dread for the fictional characters made alive by the author. When the war started the Death had a lot more to do and to say. The story had hit its twist when the Hubermanns gave shelter to a Jew (Max Vandenberg). This story ends with the end of the world war wherein Liesel lost all her near and dear ones in the most tragic and abrupt manner. The story ends with a delicate feeling of Sorrow and Hope and at that time you feel most connected to Liesel and even DEATH(as a character). Finally in the Epilogue you find that Liesel lived to the fullest of her life, courageously carrying the bitter memories of the sweet past. At the end, DEATH expresses the only feeling that comes to its mind, “I am haunted by humans.”

My Thoughts

The author has depicted Liesel’s foster parents as kind and considerate enough to raise her like their own daughter despite their humble background. Liesel took time but finally adapted to her new life in Munich. The normal lives of Liesel and her foster parents lost their normalcy on the onset of World War ll, especially when they had given the shelter to a Jew. The Jew had a positive emotional impact on Liesel’s life but the Hubermanns were driven by constant fear of getting arrested by the Nazis. The author has paid keen attention towards the details of the character sketch of each and every character in the story. After reading for a while you can experience the same feelings and emotions as experienced by the characters due to the brilliant literary illustrations of every event by the author. The author has carefully studied the events occurring during the world war and the reaction of common people to the happenings. The thoughts and emotions which you develop at the end of the story are beyond explanation. At the end, you actually come to the conclusion that war is futile and then you can feel cold Death and the warmth of Hope.

FOOTBALL
TIMO WERNER AND MASON MOUNT FIRE BLUES INTO ALL-ENGLISH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

Goals by Timo Werner and Mason Mount sent Chelsea into a Champions League Final showdown with Manchester City as they claimed a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge (3-1 on aggregate) against 13 times champions, Real Madrid. Throughout the 180 minutes Chelsea consistently outclassed Real Madrid. Chelsea started the game with intent and created chances to lead early into the game. It did not help with Werner’s morale, who has been struggling with poor form in recent weeks, when his goal early into the game was ruled out for offside. But even with his confidence having been so thoroughly battered in recent weeks he could not miss when Kai Havertz’s chip over Thibaut Courtois came off against the crossbar and fell favourably for him to finish with a nod in. Even with talisman, Sergio Ramos back after missing the home leg, Real were outplayed by Tuchel’s side as they stormed to the club’s first Champions League final since 2012, when they won the title for the first time. After the break, Chelsea looked far more likely to score creating ample chances to finish the game with ease. Havertz and Thiago Silva headed the ball too high, Mount fired the ball over the crossbar and there were a series of indecisive attempts at finishing in the final third by Chelsea. Despite creating ample chances, it took until the 85th minute for the Blues to put the tie away with Mount slotting the ball home from a cross by Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea will face off against Manchester City in an all-English Final on May 29th. The final in Istanbul will be the second all-English final in the last three seasons.” It’s a Champions League final!”, Azpilicueta said. “We have played them [Man City] lots of times but it’s the Champions League final. We believe in ourselves, we know we have to work hard but we are ready for it.”
