Quote Of The Day

~ Pierre Boutroux

This quote tells us that, we need to prioritise things. That is, start doing things that are important and necessary. Then slowly and steadily, we must try to get hold on things that are possible to do. And by this, suddenly one day, we could even be successful in doing things that are impossible and revolutionary.

Explanation

One should never lose hope in tough times. Hope shows us the way out of such tough situations. If a ship sinks, the survivors can reach the coast if they keep hope and keep swimming. On the other hand, if they lose all hope, they will not be able to swim properly and will eventually drown; same is the situation with our lives.

Historical Significance of the Day

·        1832, Greece was declared an independent kingdom under the protection of Britain, France and Russia.

·        1847, The American Medical Association was founded.

·        1907, The fist electric tramway service in India commenced from Municipal Office, Bombay to Crawford Market.

·        1926, The voting age for British women was reduced from 30 years to 21 years.

·        1945, Nazi Germany surrendered to the Allies thus ending the war in Europe.

Answer to Puzzler: 100%
Explanation

The perfect strategy for the game is as follows(B → Blue hat, R → Red hat):

There are 4 ways to place the hat: BB, BR, RB, RR. However they can be interpreted as 2 ways: One where Tinu and Minu get the same hat(BB & RR) and one where they don't (BR & RB). The strategy is based on this (The strategy will work even if you interchange Tinu's and Minu's roles.) :

Tinu will check Minu's hat color and will guess the other color as her own hat color. (eg. if Minu has a Blue hat, Tinu will guess Red.) On the other hand Minu will check the color of hat Tinu is wearing and guess the same color as her own hat color. (eg. if Tinu is wearing a Blue hat, Minu will guess Blue).

In this way either Minu or Tinu will guess the correct hat color!

NOTE: Tinu cannot simply tell Minu's hat color as her "Guess" for Minu to guess correctly as they have to guess at the same time

HOW TO PRIORITISE YOUR TASKS WHEN YOU HAVE LITERALLY HUNDRED…

I think it is pretty basic that we are flooded with hundreds of tasks and assignments and deadlines, and we epically struggle, especially if we are between 15-21 years of age! But you know what that's just taking a toll on our lives, our academics and our relationships only because we are not methodically taught how to handle this amount of work ever before.

So, yes I'm 17 and I've lived through this for quite sometime now... so just humans helping humans.. here are simple, direct and easy to implement ways when piles of work have swallowed you and you are overwhelmed:

1) Write down the number of tasks to be completed with instructions about its working.

2) Write deadlines for given assignments and add deadlines of your own to your personal work tasks

3) Use change of work as a break.

4) Take a genuine introspection period to check if you really want to pursue this goal and if it is benefitting you in the long run.

5) Without feeling guilty or embarrassed simply ask for help.

6) Take regular breaks and study in a bright environment.

7) Work a little everyday, just start with it!

8) When you feel lazy, force yourself to do the task for just 5 minutes and like a wonder you complete 3 assignments and 3 presentations!

9) Believe in yourself after working so hard, you've earned it!

10) Ask your siblings/family or friends to join you.

Try these, your life will be a lot easier...believe me!

THE OFTEN IGNORED CONDITION OF HOUSEHELPS, CARETAKERS AND BABYSITTERS

It is a common practice in many Indian households to hire men and women as domestic- helps to assist them in the various domestic tasks. The maids and servants for household chores, the caretakers for the elderly and babysitters for the infants also fall under the category of house helps. These domestic helps knowingly- unknowingly become an integral part of our life. We instantly depend on them for their services right from making our food to doing our laundry to such an extent that it sometimes makes us incapable of doing our own duties correctly. This pandemic has especially made us realize the importance of household employees and their contribution in making our lives simpler and better.

But the main problem arises when we hear news of maids being harassed and molested at their workplaces, the domestic helps being orally abused and burdened with work to an extent that it damages their physical health. All of this makes me sit and wonder what the cause of such incidents is. When I sat down and thought about this subject in depth, I realized the root cause is that many people believe that their duty is done when we pay the house helps their salary in return for their services. They think that they can treat the domestic workers working for them as per their wish. And this reality of our society horrifies me time and again.

We as a community need to realize that the people working as domestic helps are humans too and they deserve to be treated well with respect and dignity. It is because of them that we can go out and work without worrying about our baby, elders and even our houses. Even their job isn’t easy and deserves appreciation. It is their right and our responsibility to provide maids, babysitters and caretakers with a safe atmosphere at their workplaces.

For starters you can feel empathy for them. Once you develop respect for them and their job you can start treating them with dignity and respect. Try to communicate with them and treat them like a friend or a family member. You can correct them for their mistakes but avoid violence of any kind. Make sure that no one indulges in inappropriate behaviour and makes them uncomfortable. Always be polite and appreciative towards their work (even a little smile can make a world of difference).

During these tough times of the pandemic, the domestic help workers are facing a lot of problems in personal as well as professional life. In many societies maids have been prohibited to enter for precautionary measures. Many have lost their jobs. It would be my earnest request to everyone to reach out to their domestic help workers and ask them if they are doing well, pay them their salary even if they are not coming for work and provide extra financial help if needed in extreme cases. I am sure you will make their day better.

MENTAL HEALTH DURING LOCKDOWN

Mental health means keeping our mind healthy. Mental health is related to the personality as a whole of that person. People often tend to ignore the fitness of their mind. Mental health implies a state of psychological well-being. It denotes having a positive sense of how we feel, think and contribute to one’s ability to be self-determined. In this pandemic of COVID – 19 apart from being physically fit it has become vital to remain mentally fit as well. Meditation plays an essential role in remaining mentally healthy and balanced. Meditating everyday at least for 10-15 mins can help one to have a balanced mindset. It helps in creating an optimistic outlook towards our life. It can help to remain focused and one’s concentration may also increase due to meditation. In this situation of lockdown meditating is an effective way to have a positive attitude. Not only mental health but also becoming physically fit is equally important. Being both physically and emotionally fit is the key to success in all aspects of life. On the positive node this pandemic taught all of us to remain united and more hygienic. So stay safe and take care of your health.

GUNNER’S EUROPEAN HOPES CRUSHED BY EX-COACH EMERY, MANCHESTER UNITED GO THROUGH TO FINALS

Arsenal were trailing by one goal against Villarreal in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final clash. The gunners had an away goal to their name, which bolstered hopes of making a comeback against the Spanish side. However, there was a chill that passed through the Arsenal dugout when the referee blew the whistle last night which had little to do with the weather or the goalless draw itself. It is the harsh reality of a season without European football that is haunting one part of North London. It is set to be the first season since 1995-96 (25 years) Arsenal is set to miss European football. There will be question marks over the future of the coach, the players and the club itself.

Football fans might see this as a lesson taught to Arsenal, who were going to be the co-founders of Super League. Villarreal advancing to the final shows that big club domination is yet to take over. The small clubs which were to be shunned by the formation of the Super League like AFC Ajax, Leicester City, Villarreal have knocked big clubs out in the past and will continue to do so which will make the beautiful game, more beautiful. Villarreal simply had more intent, desire, skill and talent, the merits making them worthy of going through unlike Arsenal which had very little of it yesterday night.

Villarreal will go on to face Manchester United in the final of the competition who went through 5-8 on aggregate despite a 3-2 loss to Roma thanks to a 6-2 thrashing in the first leg.
