Quote Of The Day

This is a brilliant quote that tells us importance about leadership qualities. Imagine, while on a ship, if the wind speed or direction changes, a person who thinks with a pessimistic attitude starts complaining about the wind, while the one that thinks with optimistic attitude expects it to change. But the person having leadership qualities adjusts the sail. That is, a pessimist just complaints about the situation, the optimist wishes for a positive change in the condition, whereas the leader takes steps to make the situation better.

EXPLANATION

All things in this universe are special and unique in many different ways. With whatever one is pleased that becomes beautiful for that person. In this world, nothing is admirable or grotesque by itself.

Joke Time

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He's not breathing and his eyes are glazed, so his friend calls 911. "My friend is dead! What should I do?" The operator replies, "Calm down, sir. I can help. First make sure that he's dead." There's a silence, then a loud bang. Back on the phone, the guy says, "OK, now what?"

Surprise Puzzle

You are playing Monopoly game with 3 of your friends and by chance all the players are on the "Free Parking" spot.(direction of play is towards right):

It is your turn and you own the yellow monopoly. There is no development on the yellow monopoly and you are planning to build some houses. You check your money and turns out you can only afford 1 house. Which is the best place to build the house: (from left to right) Yellow1, Yellow2 or Yellow3.

(if you are not aware of monopoly rules: On their turn, players roll 2 dice and move ahead by the number of spaces which are equal to the sum of the digits on the dice. Building a house gives a better rent so you should build it at a place where the players are more likely to come.)

THE PEOPLE’S SUCCESS YOU KNOW THE EFFORTS YOU DON’T…

Jim Carrey revealed to James Lipton on “Inside the Actor’s Studio” that when he was 15, he had to drop out of school to support his family. His father was an unemployed musician and as the family went from “lower middle class to poor,” they eventually had to start living in a van. Carrey didn’t let this stop him from achieving his dream of becoming a comedian: He went from having his dad drive him to comedy clubs in Toronto to starring in mega-blockbusters and being known as one of the best comedic actors of an era.

Yes, one of the richest people in the whole world couldn’t make any money at first. Gates’ first company, Traf-O-Data (a device which could read traffic tapes and process the data), failed miserably. When Gates and his partner, Paul Allen, tried to sell it, the product wouldn’t even work. Gates and Allen didn’t let that stop them from trying again though. Here’s how Allen explained how the failure helped them: “Even though Traf-O-Data wasn’t a roaring success, it was seminal in preparing us to make Microsoft’s first product a couple of years later.”

What Gates has achieved is just a result of his hard work and never give up attitude.

THE MIND PALACE

All of us have had to memorize dates, formulae or certain data for exams and presentations or even grocery lists! One of the tricks used for memorization is the 'method of loci', or the 'mind palace technique'.

The 2006 World Memory Champion Clemens Mayer used a mind palace to memorize 1040 random digits in half an hour. There are references to mind palaces in the series 'The Mentalist' and 'Sherlock’. Hannibal Lecter's mind palace was described in the novels by Thomas Harris.

We can use this technique to remember facts or increase our vocabulary, improve your memory or simply learn something during the lockdown. We can learn this technique with the following steps:

1.    Pick a familiar place and visualize a specific pathway through it. The best place is your home.

2.   Analyse and pick out distinctive features or the 'loci'(Latin for 'places') in this place; like the furniture or photos on the wall.

3.   Imprint this place on your mind. Make sure that you can visualize the place and features properly.

4.   Follow the pathway and associate some information or a word with each feature. You can link your desk to the title of a book. Imagine yourself sitting there and reading it. Try to make the links as unique and weird as possible

5.   When you're done, go back to the start and imagine yourself walking along the pathway. AS you look at the features you can recall the information you linked with it.

Your mind palace is ready! Whenever needed, simply visualize and walk through it to retrieve whatever information you've stored. You can make multiple mind palaces related to different topics and visit them whenever you want.

CRICKET

PANDYA, BHUVNESHWAR OVERLOOKED WHILE KULDEEP, SAINI DROPPED FROM 20-MAN SQUAD ANNOUNCED BY BCCI.

BCCI announced a 20-man squad for the world test championship final, and for the five tests that are scheduled to be played in England. While BCCI has announced a potent squad, there seem to be some surprises regarding the selection. Kuldeep Yadav, India’s star spinner was axed from the team due to lack of form.
