Quote Of The Day

In today's world quest of all over-achieving and extremely ambitious people, we must learn to celebrate even our smallest of accomplishments. Because, these are essentially the things that make us eternally happy and give us confidence to strive for the best. So we should never ignore these unplanned gains, instead of celebrating them.

LISTEN MORE

I know you have heard this a million times, as quotes, on motivational pages, at guidance lectures that- you should listen more than you should talk. So today I am not just going to tell you to do it, I am going to tell you why and how it will benefit you. I personally still am not able to inculcate this habit to 100%, I am still a work in progress, but surely it has shown me its advantages.

So here is why you should do it:

~ You understand things better

~ You remember small details

~ You understand other people’s point of view

~ You may change your points in a conversation after listening to the other person

~ You will start making progress towards an open-minded attitude

~ You’ll have clarity about certain opinions and certain topics

~ You gain deeper knowledge about simple subjects, you didn’t put much thought into up till now

And here is how to inculcate this habit:

~ Forcefully start reminding yourselves, at the beginning of conversations, to talk less

~ Start slow, decidedly talk less in 5 conversations a week

~ Pay attention when someone is talking to you

~ If someone tells you, that you are interrupting, stop taking it personally and apologize

~ Avoid using gadgets during conversations

~ Try to have conversations face-to-face

~ Voluntarily have conversations about topics you have less knowledge about to others – you are bound to listen more

~ Think about how in some conversations and situations, it isn’t even worth opening your mouth and proving your point

I hope this will help you on a day-to day basis, and you’ll benefit from it!

I’ll come up with such to-the-point how- tos  soon! Till then have fun!! ;)

SHYNESS- A QUIRKY CHARACTER TRAIT OR A FLAW?

How many times have we seen a shy introverted girl as the main protagonist who gets adopted by her loud charismatic friend and they become best friends? At Least according to my “impeccable” taste in films, this happens a lot. But the thing is in these movies it is either presented as a character flaw that the protagonist has to “get over” or it is an endearing character trait that falls under the problematic “pick me girl” trope. As both representations of “shyness” as a character trait are problematic, it begs the question whether shyness is a normal human quality in the real world or is it as problematic as the media portrays it?

Firstly, the most important thing to know is shyness is not something that a person chooses to have. I am a shy person by nature and it is not something that goes away as we get older. According to google, “Shyness is an emotion that affects how a person feels and behaves around others. Shyness can mean feeling uncomfortable, self-conscious, nervous, bashful, timid, or insecure. People who feel shy sometimes notice physical sensations like blushing or feeling speechless, shaky, or breathless.” So mostly people you are not social butterflies and need time to feel comfortable around people. Shyness can be caused by many things- low self worth, self consciousness, low social skills, anxiety, etc. People often mistake shy people as being rude, unapproachable or even flat out disinterested (talking from personal experience) but that is simply not the case! We just need more time to know a person before we open up or sometimes it's our lack of filter/ social skills that have us stunted. Personally , I think shyness is like a double edged sword. On one hand, I have made and retained many wonderful relationships because I had the time to open up and build a relationship slowly but on the other hand I can't help but feel a little dejected at the opportunities that I missed or the people I don't know just because I was nervous or shy.

I'm trying to reduce that shyness/ overcome this mechanism that my mind has built like a main character in my movie but it's never truly gone, is it? It comes back at the weirdest times and the familiar feeling of nervousness rises up in my stomach. But I think that's okay, because that's how we grow. As I try to step out of my comfort zone and shed some more feathers of my ‘shyness’, I know one day I would be a charismatic, open person with a hint of shyness still there reminding me to not go overboard.

WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL: INDIA VS NEW ZEALAND FINAL DAY 1

The day 1 of the Final test was washed out by continuous rain, at the Rose Bowl. Even conducting the toss became a big problem. Though the rain looked to have stopped during the second session, the umpires decided to call off the play. This missed game time is supposed to be covered during the reserved day i.e. Day 6 of the test.

FOOTBALL

EURO 2020 GROUP B: KEVIN DE BRUYNE PROPELS BELGIUM INTO ROUNDOF16 AFTER STEERING THEM TO VICTORY AGAINST DENMARK

Facing Belgium was a mammoth task for Denmark, especially after losing their first game to Finland. And to top it all off, without having their star playmaker Christian Eriksen. The Dane had collapsed on the pitch in Denmark’s opening clash against Finland due to cardiac arrest. The Inter Milan player had to be rushed to hospital and revived after the nearly fatal incident. After receiving medical assistance, the player was successfully stabilized thanks to the lightning flash help received from the medical staff, players & swift actions from the referee Anthony Taylor. However, the Danish squad had to resume the match after a couple of hours and play on with heavy hearts which resulted in their defeat against Finland.

Eriksen’s steady recovery progress lifted Denmark’s hopes and inspired as they kickstarted the match with an early 2nd minute goal from Yussuf Poulsen. They were off to a flying start and dominated throughout the first half after scoring the second fastest goal in European Championships.

The Danes assumed control of the game and were on top much to the concern of Belgium Coach Roberto Martinez. Star playmaker de Bruyne was brought on to help them stage a comeback against the determined Danish team. Belgium, with their first meaningful attack of the game, scored an equalizer from a counterattack after a slight hesitation in the Danish defence, as Thorgan Hazard slotted home from close range. His brother, Eden Hazard & Axel Witsel were brought onto the pitch after both recovered from injuries. The Belgians started demonstrating why they were the top ranked nation in world football and doubled their lead. De Bruyne striked the ball into the bottom left corner past Schmeichel after a neat exchange of passes.

The determined Danish side did not throw the towel and continued to threaten Belgium’s lead. They played exceptionally and at occasions came inches close to rescue a point. However, the Belgians managed to hold on.

Defeat means that the Danes are rock bottom of Group B while Belgium ease through to the next round. However, if the Danes manage to beat Russia in their final game & Belgium win against Finland, the Danes can still qualify to the next round.
