Quote Of The Day

Over analyzing and over thinking definitely causes some harm sometimes. We do come across some bad times and bad people. But cribbing over those is only nuisance. We cannot change our past. What we can do is choose to make our present better in order for a peaceful future. Letting your past experiences affect our present happiness is just a torture. A bad yesterday is a lesson learnt so as to make our present nice.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY RELATED EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

YOGA: THE HEALING_____

In India, yoga has had significant importance in various forms of healing. While most people believe it to be a fitness routine or breathing exercise that helps you to  live longer, others believe it is about meditating and keeping a steady mind.

Yoga is in fact all of these ingredients combining in the body to form nectar for the body and  soul.

I myself have learnt Yoga to several depths for 3 years at B.K.S Iyengar Yoga Institute and today I will be recommending 5 yoga poses that will help in keeping the body active and  the mind steady.

1) Vrukshasana ( tree pose )

This pose is as easy as it looks, one has to stand still and place his/her foot on the inner  side of the thigh and slowly balance oneself.

This asana teaches you balance, mental stability and helps in developing one's calf  muscles, hips and pelvic bone and erect spine

2) Adho Mukha Svanasana ( mountain pose )

This pose stretches hamstrings, chest and lengthens the spine, providing additional  blood flow to the head. It will leave you feeling energized.

In this asana one has to place his/her hands down and move the legs back until you feel  your spine and legs to be completely erect

3) Utkatasana ( chair pose )

This pose might look a bit hefty but it is extremely impactful, this one strengthens the  muscles of the legs and arms. It builds your willpower and has an energized effect on  the body and mind.

One has to stand straight with your hands in the air and slowly bend in the knees till  you feel a pull in your thigh.

This asana helps build thigh muscles and abs.

4) Bhujangasana ( cobra pose )

This asana strengthens the lower back muscles while cushioning the spine, triceps and  opening the chest, it also makes the spine flexible. In this asana one must lie stomach down on the ground and with your hands push the upper body above the ground without  lifting the thighs.

5) Chaturanga dandasana ( semi-plank pose )

In this asana, you must lie down facing downwards and place your palms near your  chest.

Next you must push your body slightly upwards till you feel pressure in your wrists,  keeping the back at approximately 90 degrees.

This asana strengthens the core and builds strength in quads.

These are 5 yoga asanas which are not very difficult to practice but also highly effective. They not only help to strengthen our body but also enhance blood circulation, positivity,  flexibility, thinking ability and durability.

And therefore in honour of International Yoga day I recommend everyone to practice these 5  basic poses.

THE HISTORIC BATTLE OF SRINAGAR : STORY OF FLYING OFFICER NIRMALJIT SINGH SEKHON

The contribution of the Indian Air Force in the protection of our sovereignty, pride and independence is tremendous. It provides and has provided service to the nation at various levels like rescue operations, seek and destroy operations, defence operations, scouting operations, transport operations, and disaster relief operations.

This story is based on the role of the Air Force during the Indo-Pak war of 1971, particularly that of a hero: Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, who was the backbone of India’s victory in the war in the erstwhile East Pakistan. There were revolts all over that region, against the barbaric atrocities being inflicted by the Pakistan Army. As a result several citizens started to flee into India as refugees. It started becoming very difficult to manage this heavy influx of refugees and India began to actively support the citizens freedom movement - ‘Muktibahini’.  The increasing tensions along the eastern borders was too much for Pakistan, and the PAF attacked 6 of India’s Air bases along the western frontiers in J&K, Punjab and Rajasthan on the night of 3rd Dec. 1971. This was effectively like officially declaring war against India. Thanks to our deep rooted intelligence network, we could get out of these PAF raids with miniscule damage to our bases and use them effectively for hard effective counter air strikes deep inside Pakistan with the next light of the sun.

In order to signify their Air Force, Pakistan’s next target was the Srinagar Air Base. However, India was two steps ahead of Pakistan. The Indian Air Force had already issued 4 fighter pilots to guard the airspace and base of Srinagar. This operation was led by Squadron Leader Pathania. The other pilots comprising the team were Flight Lieutenant Boppaya, Flight Lieutenant Ghummang and the rookie Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon. This base was particularly chosen by the Pakistanis as there was no radar to be installed here as per the UN agreement or any prior threats to the air base reported from Doda (a nearby post guarded by soldiers). Based on the information from Doda, the expertise of the two man squads of the Air Force, the enemy jets were forced to retreat 4 times!!!! These odds are extremely overwhelming because the enemy had the best and most potent fighter jets in the world : the F-12 Sabres while our fighter jets were smaller and comparatively less advanced. Although powered by the strong willpower and skill of the Indian pilots, it was just as potent and this was proved by the previous performances. The team consisting of Ghummang and Sekhon was most efficient in enemy elimination. In the Air Force, Ghummang was known as G-man and Sekhon as Brother. Determined from the start to eliminate the enemy at all costs, Sekhon was fierce in each counter-attack.

Frustrated by their defeats, the Pakistani air force decided to end it in one final blow. Judging by the performance differences between the Sabres and the Gnats, the Pak Air Force deployed their Black Thunder regiment comprising 6 Sabres. Their strategy was to maintain an altitude of 4000 metres until they crossed Doda post. Later 4 Sabres would lower just before the base to 2000 metres, out of which 2 would bomb the base i.e. drop bombs and 2 would fire the base to incur further damage. The 2 remaining Sabres would provide cover fire from an altitude of 3000 metres. Their prime target was the runway so that the Indian jets would not take off. Finally the day commenced. The enemy took off according to their plan. The scots at Doda were able to spot the Sabres quite late due to the altitude, however they managed to inform the Srinagar base. By the time the G-man-Brother duo were in their planes, the battle had commenced. Our side was on the verge of defeat. However Sekhon managed to take off by changing the trajectory of take-off and flight. G-man managed somehow but was delayed. Until then, Sekhon had already gunned down one Sabre and inflicted severe damage to their lieutenant’s Sabre. The enemy was quick to react and had soon caught Sekhon in a trap. Sekhon was tailing the damaged Sabre while another Sabre was tailing his Gnat. All the 3 aircrafts were flying in a circular pattern. Thus, speed, maintaining trajectory and endurance were important in the battle. However, the lieutenant’s Sabre being damaged, the battle did not last long and Sekhon gunned yet another Sabre. However, Sekhon was unaware of the 2 back-up Sabres and was taken by sheer surprise. His Gnat was heavily damaged and lost control. His jet went haywire, lost altitude and approached the hills at great speed. He pressed the emergency evacuation button and ejected successfully but the parachute did not open and he crash landed. It was too late until Ghummang chased out the two bombers and rushed for Sekhon’s rescue. “Brother” had lost his life in service to his nation. He had gunned down 2 Sabres and fled out 3 Sabres during his time at Srinagar !!!. It was nearly impossible for a mere Gnat to inflict such heavy damage to the Sabres. Sekhon had literally ‘ridiculed the Sabres’ by his sheer willpower and love for his nation. For this indiscriminate achievement and showcase of bravery, he was awarded the most prestigious award in the armed forces: The Param Vir Chakra. He is the only Air Force officer in history to have been decorated with this medal. There is a statue of Sekhon at the Srinagar Air Base and it is believed that his spirit still guards the air base. This was the historic battle and the story of the only Air Force officer who bagged the Param Vir Chakra: Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon.

WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL DAY 4 : RAIN RUINS PLAY AGAIN

Rain has once again played spoilsport and due to this, there couldn't have been any action on the Day 4 of the ultimate test. The Kiwis had a great start to their innings with both Latham and Conway looking good. But it was Ashwin who got the breakthrough for India and a wicket from Ishant led to India's comeback on late Day 3. Day 4 was supposed to be a crucial day for the result of the test match. But now Day 4 being washed out, the possibilities of a result for either sides looks tough. Here after only two days remain for play, with India needing straight 18 wickets for win, while New Zealand have to make runs, bowl and then make runs again if need be. Result to this match, with still almost 3 innings left looks tough unless there are stellar performances from either sides. For India to win, they would have to take wickets within two sessions on Day 5 and bundle up the Kiwis having a healthy lead. After this India would have to make quick runs and bat as fast as possible and declare within two sessions, only if all that happens India will have two proper sessions to bowl New Zealand out again. This win is going to be tough for India, in just under six sessions India have to take 18 wickets and have a considerable amount of runs in hand. New Zealand have a comparatively simpler path to victory, they have to bat as much as possible on Day 5, maybe bat out the whole day and try to get a big lead. Then On Day 6 their bowlers come into play look to take the remaining 10 Indian wickets. If some more game time is snatched by rain or by bad light, chances of India winning this match are lessened. The more time India get and the faster they play, the more it will be easy for India to win.
