FM - Frequency Modulation

In FM broadcasting, the frequency of the carrier wave is modulated so as to encode the sound to be carried. The receiver receives the wave through its antenna and uses a filter to filter out waves having undesired frequencies. The wave having the desired frequency is then decoded and the sound is played using speakers.

Gion Matsuri, Kyoto, Japan

Date: 17th and 24th July

Float parading through Kyoto, Japan from Gion Matsuri (Shutterstock)

Undeniably the biggest festival in Kyoto and Japan, Gion Matsuri is steeped in history. Gion Matsuri first began in the year 839 during a plague. Kyoto residents tried their best to appease their gods by offering up a child messenger. Every year, as per tradition, a local boy is chosen as a sacred messenger to the gods. From July 13 until the first parade ends on July 17, he sits on one of the many elaborate floats and his feet never touch the ground. The second parade takes place on 24 July, but the whole month is filled with vibrancy, all-night parties, and delicious street food. It takes place over the entire month of July. There are many different events, but the grand procession of floats (Yamaboko Junko) on July 17 is particularly spectacular. Very enjoyable are also the festive evenings preceding the procession (Yoiyama). From 2014, a second procession of floats was reintroduced on July 24 after a hiatus of 48 years. The second procession features fewer and smaller floats than the one on July 17.

Dreamy Drawings.

I dived into the world,

Filled with colours of all sorts.

Brushes, Canvases showcasing energy.

The artist inside me letting out snorts!

The brushes stroke,

Colours spread across the outlined figures.

Seems casting a spell of ecstasy everywhere.

Even in our lives.

Drawings at times appear as dreams.

Then why do we obscure them?

Can we find reality in the virtual world?

A thought, suddenly came

Drawings are expressions.

Pure emotions.

Authentically coated assets.

Pouring out the artist's devotion.
